How should paulownia furniture be maintained?

Due to the material characteristics of paulownia furniture, such as soft texture and susceptibility to temperature and humidity, targeted maintenance is needed to extend its service life. The following are detailed maintenance methods:

1、 Environmental control: Avoid extreme conditions

1. Protect from direct sunlight

Long term exposure to sunlight can cause moisture loss, cracking, fading, and other problems in paulownia wood.   

Suggest placing furniture in areas covered by curtains or blinds, or covering it with sunscreen cloth;   

If you need to get close to the window, you can stick anti UV film on the glass to reduce the damage of sunlight to the wood.

2. Control temperature and humidity

Tongmu is sensitive to temperature and humidity. If the humidity is too high, it is prone to mold and expansion, while if the humidity is too low, it is prone to drying and cracking.   

Ideal humidity: 40%~60%, adjustable through humidifier (dry season) or dehumidifier (humid season);   

Avoid placing furniture near air conditioning vents, radiators, or areas with high humidity changes such as kitchens and bathrooms.

2、 Daily cleaning: Gently treat stains

1. Basic dust removal

Regularly wipe the surface gently with a soft dry cloth (such as microfiber cloth), avoiding using rough cloths or hard brushes to prevent scratching the wood;   

The dust in the gaps can be cleaned with a soft bristled brush and then vacuum cleaned.

2. Treat stains

A small amount of stains (such as water stains and oil stains) can be gently wiped with a soft cloth dipped in water, and immediately dried with a dry cloth to prevent moisture from seeping into the wood;   

Prohibited: Cleaning agents containing alcohol, gasoline, strong acids and alkalis (such as dishwashing detergent and disinfectant) should be avoided to prevent corrosion of paint or wood on furniture surfaces.

3、 Avoid damage: prevent physical damage

1. Scratch and heavy pressure resistance

Tongmu has low hardness and is prone to leaving scratches or indentations:

Handle items with care and avoid direct contact with sharp objects (such as keys and knives) when placing them;   

Lay soft tablecloths, placemats, or silicone pads in areas such as desktops and counters to protect the surface;   

Avoid placing heavy objects (such as large appliances) for a long time to prevent furniture from deforming.

2. Anti collision and vibration

When moving furniture, it should be lifted as a whole to avoid dragging (which may cause structural looseness or leg wear); When placing, ensure that the ground is flat to avoid gaps in furniture caused by shaking.

4、 Regular maintenance: enhance wood stability

1. Oil/wax maintenance

Every 3-6 months, apply furniture specific wood wax oil or beeswax (choose transparent and colorless to avoid changing the original color of the wood) to the surface:

① Clean the furniture with a dry cloth first;   

② Dip a soft cloth into a small amount of wax oil and wipe it evenly along the grain of the wood;   

③ After waiting for 10-15 minutes, wipe off excess grease with a clean cloth to enhance the moisture resistance and wear resistance of the wood.

2. Insect prevention treatment

Tongmu is susceptible to insect infestation (especially in humid environments), so natural insect repellents (such as camphor balls and lavender bags) can be regularly placed in the corners of furniture, but direct contact with the wood should be avoided (to prevent chemical corrosion).

5、 Special case handling

Minor scratches: If there are shallow scratches on the surface, you can first use fine sandpaper (400 mesh or more) to gently polish, and then apply a small amount of wood wax oil for repair;   

Localized dampness: If water droplets or mold spots are found on the surface of furniture, immediately dry it with a dry cloth and place it in a ventilated place to dry. Do not expose it to direct sunlight or use fire to bake it;   

Structural looseness: If screws or hinges are loose, tighten them with a screwdriver in a timely manner to avoid component detachment.

Through the above maintenance methods, damage to paulownia furniture caused by environmental factors and improper use can be effectively reduced, maintaining its beauty and durability. The core principles are: avoiding extreme environments, gentle cleaning, reducing physical impact, and regularly replenishing oil.
